Day 1: From Rabat to the Timeless City of Fes
Our journey begins with a delightful breakfast in Rabat, setting the stage for a scenic drive to Fes. En route, we'll explore Meknes, nestled in the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our journey will be punctuated with visits to historical gems like the UNESCO-listed Roman ruins of Volubilis. Post-lunch in Meknes, we'll continue to Fes, reaching our cozy hostel by afternoon. Here, dinner awaits, followed by a restful night.
Day 2: Exploring the Mystique of Fes
After breakfast, we dive into the heart of Fes, starting with the stunning Madrasa Bou Inania, an architectural marvel dating back to the 14th century. We'll then wander through Fes El Bali, the city's ancient quarter, entering through the iconic Bab Boujloud gate. The day includes visits to the Chouara Tanneries, the Mellah (Jewish Quarter), and an insightful stop at Fes’s famous ceramic workshops.
DAY 3: Fes to the Merzouga Desert via Ifrane and Ziz Valley
Today, we journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains to Ifrane, Morocco's 'Little Switzerland', and then to the Cedar Forest, home to playful Barbary apes. Post-lunch in Midelt, we'll marvel at the contrasting landscapes of Ziz Valley before arriving at Merzouga. Here, a camel trek across the dunes at sunset awaits, followed by a night of local music and stargazing.
DAY 4: Unveiling the Secrets of the Merzouga Desert
Our day in Merzouga begins with a breathtaking sunrise. We'll visit Khamlia village, famous for its Gnaoua music, delve into the MIfiss mines, and share tea with nomads in their traditional tents. A lunch of Berber pizza in a local village precedes a tranquil evening at our hotel.
DAY 5: Merzouga to Ouarzazate via the Daraa Valley
After breakfast, we head to Rissani to explore its historical market. The journey continues through the Draa Valley, with its Berber villages and lush palm groves. Reaching Ouarzazate, known as 'Africa's Hollywood', we'll rest in a local Riad/hotel, reminiscing about the day's adventures.
DAY 6: Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou
Our final day features a visit to Ouarzazate's film studios and the iconic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, we'll stop at an Argan oil cooperative before concluding our journey in Marrakech.
