7 days sahara desert tour from Casablanca
Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Chefchaouen
The first thing we will do as soon as you land in Casablanca, is pick you up from the airport. We will then take some time to visit the city’s main historical monuments such as the Hassan II mosque. Next, we will leave towards the country’s capital, Rabat city, and again enjoy a small guided tour. After lunch, we will leave Rabat, and our next destination would be the blue town of Chefchaouen.
One the way there, we will get to enjoy the Riff Mountains’ exquisite scenery before we finally arrive at Chefchaouen, also called Chaouen. We will spend the night here, at a lovely hotel in the heart of the city.
Day 2: Explore Chefchaouen and drive to Fes via Volubilis
After waking up in the beautiful town of Chefchaouen, you won’t help but want to go on a walk through its vibrant and colorful streets. The majority of the town is painted in blue, hence the name “the Blue Pearl”.
After lunch, we will leave Chefchaouen and head to Morocco’s spiritual capital: the city of Fes. On our way there, we have to make a stop at the town of Volubilis (a UNESCO world heritage site) and discover the old Roman ruins it still preserves.
Once we arrive at Fes, we will make our way through the narrow streets of the Old Medina to get to the traditional Riad where we will spend the night.
Day 3: Explore Fes
This next morning, we will start by exploring the old part of Fes (old Medina) with the help of a local guide.
Our tour will include the traditional souks, the Royal palace gates, and the Quaraouine University. The Quaraouine is actually the oldest university in the world that still operates to this day. We will have lunch at a traditional Moroccan restaurant, then continue our tour with a visit to the Nejjarine fountain and the Batha Museum.
To end our day, we will stop at a café with a terrace to enjoy a panoramic view over the city, before finally returning to our Riad.
Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga
This next morning, we will be leaving Fes and heading to the Middle Atlas, to get to Merzouga by the end of the day.
On our way there, we will visit the town of Ifrane, also called the Switzerland of Morocco, before continuing to the forests of Azrou, where we will see wild macaque monkeys. We will then reach Midelt city, considered the heart of the Middle Atlas, where we will have lunch before continuing our journey.
The journey will take us through the beautiful Ziz valley, in which we have to stop to appreciate the view and maybe get some pictures. Following this, we will drive by the desert towns of Erfoud and Rissani before finally arriving at Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi desert. This is where we will enjoy the magnificent desert scenery before checking in at the Riad where we will spend the night.
Day 5: Explore Merzouga – Camel Trekking and night in the dunes
For this next day of our tour, we will have a blast exploring Merzouga’s surroundings and learning more about the desert culture. First we will take a small tour through the dunes in a 4x4 vehicle, leading us to the historical Khamlia village. The reason why Khamlia is so important to the area is because the village is home to the masters of Gnaoua music.
After this, we will make a quick stop at the Serji Lake where many seasonal birds live such as pink flamingos; then visit one of the nomad families living in the desert to learn more about their culture and lifestyle.
We will head back to Merzouga for lunch, then go back to the hotel to relax for a little bit. This is where we will get to enjoy the magnificent desert scenery while riding on the back of camels through the sunset. The camel ride will take us to the hidden desert camp where we will have tasty traditional dishes for dinner, then enjoy the rest of the night partying with local musicians; before getting to sleep in fancy, well accommodated tents.
Day 6: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge
This morning, you will want to wake up early in order to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the desert dunes! After this, we will ride the camels back to the hotel in Merzouga to shower and have breakfast.
Then, we will leave towards the famous Todra gorges, which is a hiking spot that attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. After lunch, we will drive to the valley of Dades and explore the area called “the road of the thousand Kasbahs” before heading to the Riad where we will spend the night.
Day 7: Dades Gorge – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – High Atlas – Marrakech
For the last day for our tour, we will drive through the road of the thousand Kasbahs once more, leading to Kalaat Mgouna, also known as the capital of roses, and the city of Ouarzazate.
After this, we will explore the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which is famous for being the backdrop of many historical movies. The Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah is also a UNESCO world heritage site.
