7-Day Fes to Merzouga Desert Tour

Day 1:Fes sightseeing

After picking you up for this tour, we will start by exploring the old part of Fes city (old Medina) with the help of a local guide.

Our tour will include the traditional souks, the Royal palace gates, and the Quaraouine University. The Quaraouine is actually the oldest university in the world that still operates to this day. We will have lunch at a traditional Moroccan restaurant, then continue our tour with a visit to the Nejjarine fountain and the Batha Museum.

To end our day, we will stop at a café with a terrace to enjoy a panoramic view over the city, before finally heading to a Riad to spend the night.

Day 2: Fes – Merzouga

This next morning, we will be leaving Fes and heading to the Middle Atlas, to get to Merzouga by the end of the day.

On our way there, we will visit the town of Ifrane, also called the Switzerland of Morocco, before continuing to the forests of Azrou, where we will see wild macaque monkeys. We will then reach Midelt city, considered the heart of the Middle Atlas, where we will have lunch before continuing our journey.

The journey will take us through the beautiful Ziz valley, in which we have to stop to appreciate the view and maybe get some pictures. Following this, we will drive by the desert towns of Erfoud and Rissani before finally arriving at Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi desert. This is where we will enjoy the magnificent desert scenery before checking in at the Riad where we will spend the night.

Day 3: Tour around Erg Chebbi by 4×4 – camel ride and night in desert camp

For this next day of our tour, we will have a blast exploring Merzouga’s surroundings and learning more about the desert culture. First we will take a small tour through the dunes in a 4x4 vehicle, leading us to the historical Khamlia village. The reason why Khamlia is so important to the area is because the village is home to the masters of Gnaoua music.

After this, we will make a quick stop at Rissani city, which weekly holds the biggest market of the area.

We will head back to Merzouga for lunch, then go back to the hotel to relax for a little bit. This is where we will get to enjoy the magnificent desert scenery while riding on the back of camels through the sunset. The camel ride will take us to the hidden desert camp where we will have tasty traditional dishes for dinner, then enjoy the rest of the night partying with local musicians; before getting to sleep in well accommodated tents.

Day 4: Merzouga – Ouarzazate

This morning, you will want to wake up early in order to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the desert dunes! After this, we will ride the camels back to the hotel in Merzouga to shower and have breakfast.

Then, we will leave towards the famous Ouarzazate city, also known as the Hollywood of Morocco. During our trip there, we may stop at some of the stores along the way that sell artisanal products such as carpets and lamps. Finally, we will get to Ouarzazate and spend the night

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Marrakech

This next day, we will have breakfast in Ouarzazate, then go for a visit to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. The Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah is known for being the backdrop of many historical movies, also as a UNESCO world heritage site. After having explored this magical place, we will have lunch then straight to Marrakech city, our last destination before finally heading back to Fes.

Day 6: Marrakesh

After breakfast, prepare yourself for a long day, because today we will explore the wonders of Marrakech city through a guided tour. This of course will include some of the red city’s most important historical monuments such as Jamaa El Fna, the Bahia Palace, the Majorelle Garden and the Saadian tombs. We will enjoy our last day full together in city full of culture and history, which you can also freely explore on your own in the afternoon.
