6 Days Tour from Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga Desert

Experience the very best bits and pieces of Moroccan culture through our private guided tours! This tour starts at the city of Fez, leading to the Middle Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, and finally Marrakech, for a maximum Moroccan experience. Just like the rest of our tours, it is customizable and can be personalized to fit your plans.

For the first day of our trip, we will pick you up from Fes and take you on a relaxing and scenic road trip through Morocco’s Middle Atlas region. The area is almost entirely covered by cedar forests and other greenery, which makes for a perfect summer picnic location. We will visit one the villages of the area called Azrou, where we can spot some wild Barbary monkeys playing around. Continuing our drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains, we will arrive at the beautiful city of Midelt, where we get to relax and spend the night.

After waking up in Midelt, we will continue our journey which will take us through the beautiful Ziz valley, where we have to stop to appreciate the view and maybe get some pictures. Following this, we will drive by the desert towns of Erfoud and Rissani before finally arriving at Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi desert. This is where we will get to enjoy the magnificent desert scenery while riding on the back of camels through the sunset. The camel ride will take us to the hidden desert camp where we will have tasty traditional dishes for dinner. You will experience the genuine desert culture with Berber music and drums playing around you, before finally going to sleep in nomad-style tents.

For this next day of our tour, we will have a blast exploring Merzouga’s surroundings and learning more about the desert culture. First we will take a small tour through the dunes in a 4x4 vehicle, leading us to the historical Khamlia village. The reason why Khamlia is so important to the area is because the village is home to the masters of Gnaoua music. After this, we will make a quick stop at the Serji Lake where many seasonal birds live such as flamingos; then visit one of the nomad families living in the desert to learn more about their culture and lifestyle. After we are done exploring, we will head back to Merzouga to spend the night at a local Kasbah.

This next morning, we will wake up to the most beautiful sunrise in the middle of the Desert. You can enjoy the area for a bit by walking around the dunes, before heading to breakfast. We will have breakfast in Merzouga then leave towards the famous Todra gorges, which is a hiking spot that attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. On our way there, we will stop at the famous Rissani city, where the biggest weekly market of the region takes place. We will also visit the town of Erfoud, known for the production of fossil marbles. Finally, we will get to the gorges of Todra, which will be a truly amazing sight to behold. After lunch and a walk through the gorges, we will drive to the valley of Dades and explore the area called “the road of the thousand Kasbahs” before heading to the Riad where we will spend the night.

For today, we will have breakfast then drive through the road of the thousand Kasbahs once more, leading us to Kalaat Mgouna. Kalaat Mgouna is Morocco’s capital of roses, where a dedicated festival is held annually. After a lunch break at Skoura, we will get to Ouarzazate city next, the Hollywood of Morocco. Ouarzazate is known for its top notch cinema studios, which produced some well-known international movies such as Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. While we’re still in Ouarzazate, we will visit the local Kasbah of Taourirt as well as the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. The Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah is known for being the backdrop of many historical movies, also as a UNESCO world heritage site. After having explored this magical place, we will return to Ouarzazate to spend the night.

For the last day of our tour, we will have breakfast in Ouarzazate, then return for a final visit to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. When we are done, we will head to another famous Kasbah of the area called the Kasbah of Telouet, which used to belong to an important political figure in the South, Pacha El Glaoui. After having lunch at a traditional restaurant, we will head straight to the city of Marrakech where our tour will end.
