5-day Marrakech to Tangier tour across the desert and the Blue City
Experience the very best bits and pieces of Moroccan culture through our private guided tours! This tour starts at the city of Marrakech, leading to the Sahara Desert and finally Tangier city, for a maximum Moroccan experience. Just like the rest of our tours, it is customizable and can be personalized to fit your plans.
Day 1 :Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Zagora
This 5 days desert tour begins when we pick you up from your accommodation at Marrakech and start driving through the scenic High Atlas Mountains to Zagora, our destination. This road trip is one of the most exciting ones you can have in Morocco, considering that we will be driving through the Tizin Tichka mountain pass (the highest one in all of Morocco!).
After enjoying our drive and stopping for cool pics, we will get to one of Morocco’s most important historical locations, the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This Kasbah holds great value in filmmaking history, since it is backdrop where many historical movies were made, such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia and Kingdom of Heaven.
After exploring the Kasbah and having lunch, we will continue our journey to finally arrive at the town of Zagora. Once we get there, we will first check into a traditional Kasbah hotel to spend the night.
Day 2 : Zagora – Tazarine – Merzouga
Today’s journey is going to be a special, since we will be heading to the Merzouga desert after we have breakfast. On the way there, we will make a visit to the Alnif Oasis to relax and have lunch. After that, we will finally get to the town of Merzouga, the gateway to the Moroccan desert. We will check into a hotel to unpack and shower.
This is where we will get to enjoy the magnificent desert scenery while riding on the back of camels through the sunset. The camel ride will take us to the hidden desert camp where we will have tasty traditional dishes for dinner. You will experience the genuine desert culture with Berber music and drums playing around you, before finally going to sleep in nomad-style tents.
Day 3 :Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes
For the last day of this trip, we will first have breakfast in Merzouga, then leave in the direction of the Tafilalt palm groves. The road trip through the thousands of palm trees will be an enjoyable refresher from the otherwise deserted terrain. After this, we will once again enter the fascinating Middle Atlas area, stopping first at the city of Midelt then the beautiful Ifrane. Finally, we will reach Fes where we will spend the night at a hotel or Riad.
Day 04:Fes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen.
This next morning, we will start by exploring the old part of Fes (old Medina) with the help of a local guide. Our tour will include the traditional souks, the Royal palace gates, and the Quaraouine University. The Quaraouine is actually the oldest university in the world that still operates to this day.
We will have lunch at a traditional Moroccan restaurant, then continue our tour by heading to the Volubilis Archeological town. While being here, we will get to discover and appreciate all the ancient Roman ruins that the town still preserves.
After we are done exploring, we will leave Volubilis, and our next destination would be the blue town of Chefchaouen.
One the way there, we will get to enjoy the Riff Mountains’ exquisite scenery before we finally arrive at Chefchaouen, also called Chaouen. We will spend the night here, at a lovely hotel in the heart of the city.
Day 05:Chefchaouen – Tangier
After waking up in the beautiful town of Chefchaouen, you won’t help but want to go on a walk through its vibrant and colorful streets. The majority of the town is painted in blue, hence the name “the Blue Pearl”. The pretty and narrow streets of Chefchaouen’s old Medina are perfect for taking pictures, and its small colorful shops are perfect for souvenir shopping.
After lunch, we will leave Chefchaouen and head to the city of Tangier, or “the Bride of the North”. This city is a perfect example of Morocco’s advanced and modern cities that are nevertheless still holding on to their traditional side. Tangier’s landscape is also rich with European and Andalusian influences, which add an incredible charm to the city. By the end of the day, our tour of Tangier will end, ending with it this 5 day trip throughout Morocco.
